About Richard Ward & Classic Rock Photography

I first found myself becoming more interested in photography in the digital age after buying a Fuji digital camera in 1999. Soon I began experimenting beyond simple point and click which necessitated several camera upgrades. I have exclusively been using Nikon DSLRs since 2004.
I started going to concerts in the 1980s, with my main interests being what are now regarded as classic rock bands such as Deep Purple, UFO, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath etc, and NWOBHM bands such as Diamond Head & Saxon. It is also good to see a lot of new talent emerging both on the blues and hard rock scene, and I have enjoyed watching the likes of The Answer, Casino and Joanne Shaw Taylor this year.

I started taking a camera along to some of the concerts that I went to, and from there the obsession grew. I live in the Midlands, but also enjoy travelling throughout the UK to see bands. My images have been published in UK & USA based rock magazines, used in album and DVD sleeves, various promotional material, and the most unusual having one commissioned for use as a mural in Kavarna, Bulgaria. Most extensively, my images have been used on official websites such as; Diamond Head, Glenn Hughes, UFO, Waysted, M.ill.ion, Quill, Michael Schenker, Chris George, Dean Guitars, Andy Parker, Goats Don't Shave, Pure Instinct, Dizzy Lizzy, Al Atkins, Taz Taylor and Graham Bonnet.
